Manchester United players celebrate 3-1 victory against Liverpool at Anfield
Harry Maguire scored the winning goal as Manchester United secured a shock 2-1 victory over Liverpool in their English Premier League (EPL) encounter at Anfield on Sunday.
The Red Devils were good value for their victory against the lethargic hosts at a packed stadium, with Maguire ensuring his team collected all three points after Cody Gakpo briefly put the Reds level to cancel Bryan Mbeumo’s early opener for the visitors. It is Man United’s first victory at Liverpool’s home in nine years.
Mbeumo capitalised on a sleepy Liverpool defence to collect Amad Diallo’s pass and slot beyond the goalkeeper with a low shot for 1-0 in the second minute, silencing the home crowd.
Bruno Fernandes then hit the outside of the post minutes later as Liverpool struggled against United’s attackers.

Arne Slot’s men recovered and continued to probe Man United’s defence without success until the 78th minute when Gakpo tapped in Federico Chiesa’s low cross at the back post to level the encounter.
However, Man United delivered the sucker punch from a poorly cleared corner kick, and Fernandes’ cross found Maguire who headed into the net for the winning goal, with the goalkeeper rooted to the spot.
Defeat is Liverpool’s third consecutive loss in the league, while Ruben Amorim won his first consecutive matches since he joined Man United. The loss is also Liverpool’s fourth consecutive in all competitions for the first time since 2014.
