Chelsea defeated Everton 1-0 at the Goodison Park on Saturday evening to begin their English Premier League (EPL) season on a winning note.
Jorginho’s penalty was enough for the Blues to secure the win following a turbulent summer transfer window.
Thomas Tuchel handed debuts to Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly, and the latter gave a stellar performance at the back with a clean sheet on his EPL baptism.
Tottenham were the biggest winners so far of the opening EPL weekend following a 4-1 comeback victory over Southampton at their London Stadium.
Goals from Ryan Sessegnon, Eric Dier, Muhammed Salisu and Dejan Kulusevski cancelled out James Ward-Prowse’s opener to send the Lillywhites to the top of the EPL table.
Liverpool were however held to a 2-2 draw at Fulham.
