Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored a 95th-minute goal to steal a point for Everton at Old Trafford as Manchester United were held to a 3-3 draw in an entertaining English Premier League (EPL) clash on Saturday.

Looking to close in on league leaders, Man City, the red side of Manchester failed to build on their record-equaling 9-0 win in midweek as strikes from Edison Cavani, Bruno Fernandes and Scott McTominay were cancelled by goals from Abdoulaye Dacoure, James Rodrigues and Calvert-Lewin.

The Red Devils, who were commemorating the 63rd anniversary of the Munich air disaster, started the match on the front foot and were rewarded with the lead on 24 minutes through Edison Cavani. The 33-year-old Uruguay striker met Marcus Rashford’s pin-point cross with a deserving header to give Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side the lead.

Fernandes, in his 50th appearance for Man United, doubled the lead on the stroke of halftime with a stunning goal to hand his side a seemingly comfortable lead going into the interval. The Portuguese attacker expertly picked out the far corner from the edge of the area for a 2-0 lead.

Everton improved in the second period and scored twice in three minutes to temporarily restore parity through Dacoure and Rodriguez.

Dacoure, the French midfielder, was gifted Everton’s first on 48 minutes when David de Gea failed to properly deal with a cross, palming it to the path of the former Watford player, who tucked home from few yards.

The combative midfielder assisted the second in the 55th minute, picking out James Rodriguez inside the area, and the Colombian playmaker drilled a low finish into the bottom corner to level the scoreline.

The stunned hosts recovered quickly to regain the advantage 20 minutes from the end through McTominay’s header from Luke Shaw’s cross.

Further drama was reserved for the last minute as Calvert-Lewin, the England international striker, poked home a loose ball that both Harry Maguire and De Gea failed to clear, handing Everton the equalizer from virtually the last kick of the match.

Man United’s solitary point takes them joint-top of the EPL on 47 points but have played two more games than Man City.
