EPL round-up: Arokodare fails to score on debut as Chelsea drop points at Brentford

Tolu Arokodare failed to find the net on his English Premier League (EPL) debut for Wolverhampton Wanderers as the club lost 1-0 to Newcastle United at St. James’ Park on Saturday.

The Super Eagles striker, who sealed a £24 million move on transfer deadline day, could not fire Wolves to their first points of the season.

The former Genk striker won four aerial duels with 71% passing accuracy, but did not have a shot during his time on the pitch. He, however, suffered the joint-most fouls by a Wolves player in the match, and contributed defensively with three clearances.

His debut ended in the 65th minute following a substitution, and Wolves did not improve upon his exit. The defeat sees Wolves remain rooted to the bottom of the EPL table with no points in four matches.

Fellow debutant, Christantus Uche, was an 84th-minute substitute for Crystal Palace in their goalless draw with Sunderland. Uche managed a shot on target during his cameo debut.

Elsewhere, Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey started for Fulham in the London club’s 1-0 win over Leeds United, with Bassey completing 90 minutes while Iwobi was rested in the 76th minute.

At the top of the league, Arsenal dispatched Nottingham Forest 3-0, with Martin Zubimendi bagging a brace either side of Victor Gyokores’ goal.
