Chelsea FC and Manchester United left it late before registering a nervy 1-1 draw in their English Premier League (EPL) encounter at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

United went into the encounter on the back of rancour which ensued after Ronaldo stormed off the field before the final whistle in their midweek clash against Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford.

Erik Ten Hag, the Red Devils’ manager, had dropped the 37-year-old from the first team and relegated him to training with the u23 side.

With the two teams eyeing the top-four slot, they gave in to overcalculation and tinkering that numbed the majority of the match.

But the game suddenly sprung to life in the 87th minute after Scott McTominay wrestled Armando Broja to the ground in the United goal area. The referee pointed to the penalty spot and Jorginho sent David de Gea the wrong way from the resultant kick.

However, United responded deep into the additional time with Casemiro scoring his first goal for United. The Brazilian rose highest to meet a floating cross from Luke Shaw and his header pinged off the post and trickled into the net.

Earlier in the day, Taiwo Awoniyi stunned Liverpool at the City Ground to ensure a 1-0 victory for Nottingham Forest over the Merseysiders.

The Nigerian scored against his former employers and compounded Jurgen Klopp’s winless away run in the EPL this season.

Alex Iwobi also shone brilliantly in Everton’s 3-0 thrashing of Crystal Palace at Goodison Park. The Nigerian midfielder set Dominic Calvin-Lewin up with a smart through pass for the Toffee’s first goal. He then displayed an almost telepathic awareness to tee up Dwight McNeil for the third goal of the afternoon.
