Erling Haaland netted once in each half as Manchester City secured an easy 4-1 win over relegation-threatened Southampton on Saturday.

On return from injury, the Norwegian striker’s goals nudged Pep Guardiola’s side forward, with further goals from Jack Grealish and Julio Alvarez completing the rout.

Haaland slotted home his first to give Man City a first half lead before Grealish doubled the lead early in the second half. Haaland then netted with an acrobatic kick before Sekou Mara scored Southampton’s consolation goal.

Alvarez scored from the penalty spot after Kevin de Bruyne was brought down as Man City secured their 10th consecutive win in all competitions.

The Citizens are on 67 points from 29 matches as they continue to chase down Arsenal, the league leaders, who are on 72 points.

Earlier in the day, Chelsea’s misery continued despite a change of coach as they fell 1-0 to Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Molineaux. Matheus Nunes’ well-struck volley found the roof of the net and it was enough to consign Frank Lampard to a losing return to Chelsea.

The Blues have not scored in three matches and have won just once in 11 games.

Elsewhere, Manchester United, Newcastle United and Tottenham, all top-four hopefuls, won, while Leicester City’s relegation fears continued to increase no thanks to a 1-0 loss at home to Bournemouth.
