Cristiano Ronaldo scored the winning goal as Manchester United came from a goal down to defeat Everton 2-1 in their English Premier League (EPL) encounter at Goodison Park on Sunday.
Iwobi gave Everton an early lead three minutes into the encounter, showing shades of his uncle, Austin Jay-Jay Okocha, who was watching in the stands, to ping a 25-yard strike into the top corner for 1-0.
Antony, United’s summer signing equalised on 15 minutes, taking Anthony Martial’s pass before curling into the far corner with his third league goal in as many appearances.
Ronaldo, on for the injured Martial, put Man United ahead a minute before the interval with a well-taken strike. The Madeira-born forward collected a Casemiro pass before slotting past Pickford for his 144th Manchester United goal and landmark 700th as the Red Devils went 2-1 ahead at halftime.
VAR was called into action in the second period to chalk off a Marcus Rashford goal but Erik ten Hag’s side comfortably saw out the encounter for a crucial win that moves them to fifth on the EPL log.
Earlier in the day, Arsenal returned to the top of the EPL standing following a deserved 3-2 win over Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium.
Gabriel Martinelli opened the scoring for Arsenal 58 seconds into the exhilarating encounter, before Bukayo Saka’s brace ensured victory despite Darwin Nunez and Roberto Firmino scoring to peg the Gunners back twice.
Mikel Arteta’s side have amassed 24 points following eight wins from nine matches and are one point ahead of Manchester City, the EPL champions.
