Former Cameroon international, Samuel Eto’o, has bought an Italian mansion for £18.5 million despite locals warning him it is haunted by the curse of the Tutankhamen.

According to popular Italian daily, Corriere Dello Sport, the former Chelsea and Everton forward who recently signed for Serie A side Sampdoria has purchased the historic property in Portofino, near Genoa in northern Italy.

The property, called Villa Altachiara, was previously owned by Lord Carnarvon, who was known to be jinxed with the “Curse of the Pharaoh”.

Carnarvon was working with English archaeologist Howard Carter when they discovered the tomb of Ancient Egyptian ruler Tutankhamen, opening the “cursed” burial plot on February 16, 1923.

Many believe those who opened the tomb of “The Boy King” – the richest burial site ever found – were subsequently cursed.

Famously, of the 58 people present when Tutankhamen’s long-lost tomb was opened, eight died within 12 years.

Carnarvon’s death was quite strange too as he died after he got an infection from a mosquito bite on his face while shaving. His nephew died in the Villa by falling down the stairs.

In 2001, former Gucci model and heiress Countess Francesca Agusta vanished from the cliff-top property.

Despite those scary stories, Eto’o went on to buy the property which has 40 rooms on a 30,000 square-metres of land.
