Igwe, Imo APGA senatorial candidate, collapses, dies

Eudora Igwe, the senatorial candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) for Orlu senatorial district in Imo state, has died.

Igwe, who was a member of the Imo state house of assembly, was representing Ideato north federal constituency, where she served as the chairman of the local government for two terms.

Igwe died at a private hospital in Owerri on Monday afternoon.

She was rushed to the hospital after reportedly collapsing at her home in Egbeada housing estate, Owerri, the capital of the state.

Before her death, the late APGA senatorial candidate emerged as a consensus candidate due to what was described as her unending support for the party.

Born to the family of Charles Awalite and Eunice Awalite of Umukegwu Akokwa in 1976, Igwe attended Immaculate Heart Comprehensive High School, Lagos and proceeding to the University of Benin, where she bagged a Bachelor of Science education degree.

She later obtained a law degree from Imo state university.

Igwe was elected the first female chairman, Ideato north local government (2004-2007), and the first female representative from Ideato north local government into the Imo State house of assembly.

In 2012, she launched a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), named “Adaoma”, which had the sole aim of taking care of the indigents in the society.

The cause of her death is still largely unknown.
