Christopher Musa, former chief of defence staff (CDS), says he is leaving the Nigerian military with a clear conscience.
Musa spoke on Friday during his pull-out parade in Abuja, following his relief from office by President Bola Tinubu last week.
Tinubu appointed Olufemi Oluyede, the immediate past chief of army staff, as the new CDS.
Speaking at the parade, Musa said he gave his best in service to the nation in his role as defence chief.

“As I hang my uniform today, I do so with a clear conscience, knowing that I gave it my all. I leave with cherished memories of camaraderie — of battles fought and triumphs celebrated as one family,” he said.
“The sound of the bugle may change for me, but the soldier’s heart beats on forever.”
Musa expressed gratitude to Tinubu for the appointment and urged troops to support the newly appointed service chiefs.

He also reaffirmed his enduring loyalty to Nigeria despite retirement.
“I might be retiring from active military service today, but I’m by no means retiring from my love for our dear country, Nigeria. I remain a soldier at heart and a patriot ever loyal to the constitution and sovereignty of our great nation,” he said.
Musa noted the importance of collaboration among security agencies in the fight against insecurity and appealed to Nigerians for support and prayers for the troops.
“There is no single institution, no single organisation that can win this war alone. We must synergise, we must collaborate, we must fight together,” he said.

“I appeal to all Nigerians to pray for our troops and security forces so that we can win; and together we shall succeed. Nigeria shall continue to develop.”
