Ex-NIWA MD Bola Oyebamiji named Osun APC guber candidate

Bola Oyebamiji

Bola Oyebamiji, the former managing director of Nigeria Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), has been named as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun state in a consensus primary election.

Oyebamiji emerged as the Osun APC governorship candidate after a voice vote by delegates in Osogbo, Osun state capital.

The former NIWA boss was nominated by Kunle Adegoke, an aspirant, and seconded by Babajide Omoworare, another aspirant.

Monday Okpebholo, governor of Edo and chairman of the primary election, declared Oyebamji as APC governorship candidate for Osun 2026 election.

Some days before the primary election, eight APC governorship aspirants in Osun agreed to support a consensus candidate after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the presidential villa in Abuja.

The aspirants who signed the declaration were Benedict Olugboyega Alabi, Dotun Babayemi, Akin Ogunbiyi, Babajide Omoworare, Kunle Adegoke, Babatunde Hareter Oralusi, Mulikat Abiola Jimoh and Bola Oyebamiji.

“That we unanimously agree to abide by the party’s decision to nominate a consensus candidate for affirmation at the APC Primary Election scheduled for Saturday, 13th December 2025,” the statement had read.

On December 5, the APC screening committee barred Iyiola Omisore, former national secretary of the party, and six other aspirants from contesting the Osun governorship primary scheduled for December 13.

The panel said the seven disqualified aspirants did not present proof of sponsorship by at least five fully registered and financially up-to-date party members from each LGA as required by the APC constitution and guidelines.

Oyebamiji served as the commissioner of finance under the administration of two governors in Osun — Rauf Aregbesola and Gboyega Oyetola.
