Adamu Waziri, a former minister of police affairs, has announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Waziri, a founding member of PDP and member of the party’s board of trustees (BoT), announced his decision to leave on Monday at the Dogo Tebo ward in Potiskum LGA of Yobe state.

He attributed his decision to exit the party to the “exigencies of the moment and in the interest of the nation”.

“For record purposes. Let it be known that the current leadership and tone of the party are inconsistent with the leadership of a major party that should offer an alternative platform to its members to exercise their inalienable right and freedom of choice in any electoral contest,” Waziri said.

The former minister said he would join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) effective immediately.

In recent weeks, the PDP has experienced a wave of defections to both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the ADC.

Last week, opposition leaders unveiled the ADC as their coalition platform to challenge the APC in the 2027 elections.
