“Hajiya Halima will be etched in our national memory not only for being a virtuous mother, but as a woman, who played her role in raising a child who rose to the top of academia and our political orbit,” Akpabio said.

“I am particularly impressed by the maternal support she provided in guiding you through your years of primary and secondary education in Gashua, despite her own limited education.”

In a statement, Abass Tajudeen, the speaker of the house of representatives, commiserated with the family of Lawan, saying the demise of Halima is painful and devastating.

Tajudeen said Lawan’s mother was a worthy example of womanhood and that she lived a life filled with impact.
