Matthew Urhoghide, a former senator representing Edo south, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Channels Television reports that Urhoghide formally joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Saturday at an event in Benin city, capital of Edo state.
Urhoghide said he was a foundation member of the APC and has now returned to help build the party in the southern state.
The ex-lawmaker said he had confidence in the leadership of the APC at state and national levels.
He pledged to work for the victory of Monday Okpebholo, governorship candidate of the APC in Edo, in the forthcoming election.
Before his defection, the senator was said to be working for Okpebholo.
Eight LG chairs were also received into the fold of the APC at the event.
Adams Oshiomhole, senator representing Edo north and leader of the party in the state, welcomed the new members at the event.
Oshiomhole described Urhoghide as a “resourceful politician” whose experience will boost the party’s chances in the election.
