The Lagos house of assembly has expressed dissatisfaction over “exclusion of party loyalists” in the commissioner-nominees list submitted by Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of the state

The house said it is also disappointed with the exclusion of nominees from some local government areas, NAN reports.

Speaking during plenary on Thursday, Moshood Abiodun, lawmaker representing Ikorodu II, said in spite of his contribution to the success of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the last election, his LGA got one slot in the list.

Ademola Kasunmu, the deputy majority leader, raised concerns on the absence of a nominee from Ikeja constituency – which he represents.

On his part, Nureni Akinsanya (Mushin I), said the list did not come with the local government areas of the nominees, arguing that the party had technocrats who were not considered.

Other lawmakers, including Kehinde Joseph (Alimosho II) and Temitope Adewale (Ifako-Ijaiye I), urged the governor to reconsider the nominations.

Reacting to these grievances, Mudashiru Obasa, the speaker, said the governor has the supreme responsibility of choosing those to work with him.

He, however, directed Olalekan Onafeko, the clerk of the house, to write the governor, requesting that the nominees’ local government areas be included.

“I want to remind our colleagues that the governor has the prerogative to nominate those to work with him,” he said.

“While it is the duty of the lawmakers to screen the nominees and confirm them if they meet needed requirements.

“The house has already also set up a committee chaired by the chief whip, Fatai Mojeed, to screen the nominees and report back to the house in a few days.”
