Explosions rock Chime’s home town in Enugu

Explosions rocked Udi, the hometown of Sullivan Chime, governor of Enugu state, on Monday, creating panic ahead of the general election.

Ebere Amaraizu, public relations officer o fthe Enugu state police command, issued a statement confirming the explosion.

He said the explosions were not from bombs, but fireworks packed in the house of one Tony Eze. He also sonfirmed that no death was recorded, although many sustained injuries.

“Some of the injured have been taken to the hospitals just as men of the Explosive Ordinance Department (EOD) of the Enugu state police command have cordoned off the place with other operatives,” Amaraizu said.

“Meanwhile, instant analysis of the incident by the operatives of the EOD on ground at the scene of the explosion revealed that it was occasioned by high calibre pyrotechnics, (FIREWOKS) in a large quantity packed in the house of the owner that exploded.

“A trailer load of the said high calibre pyrotechnics, (FIRE WORKS) was brought into the house on Sunday, March 15.”
