Bassem Wahba, an Egyptian lawyer, has filed a €1 billion lawsuit against Sergio Ramos, claiming he “intentionally injured” Mohamed Salah during the Champions League final.

Salah left the field in tears on Saturday when Real Madrid beat Liverpool to win a third straight Champions League title.

Although there were fears that the 25-year-old may miss the World Cup, he assured fans on Sunday that he will be fit in time for the competition.

His assurance, it appears, failed to quell the anger of Wahba.

Appearing on Egyptian TV station, Sada El-Balad, Wahba said he had filed a complaint to FIFA.

He accused Ramos of inflicting “physical and psychological harm” on a nation and its most celebrated footballer.

“Ramos intentionally injured Mo Salah and should be punished about his actions,” he said.

“I’ve filed a lawsuit and a complaint to FIFA.

“I’ll ask for compensation, which could exceed €1 billion (£873 million), for the physical and psychological harm that Ramos gave Salah and the Egyptian people.”
