Salihu Yakasai, spokesman of Abdullahi Ganduje, governor of Kano state, has come under attack on social media after making several efforts to discredit the videos of the governor allegedly collecting bribe.

Videos of Ganduje allegedly receiving bundles of dollars as kickback from contractors were published by Daily Nigerian, an online newspaper.

Yakassai has made several posts on his Twitter account, alleging that the videos are fake and that the newspaper is bent on discrediting the character of the governor.

But he has been accused of insincerity while some online users reminded him of a tweet he made criticising Farouk Lawan, former member of the house of representatives and chairman of ad-hoc panel which investigated fuel subsidy scam.

In 2012, Lawan was caught on video collecting $500,000 out of the $3m bribe he allegedly requested from Femi Otedola, an oil magnate.

In 2012, Yakasai tweeted, “Farouk (VerB): To collect bribe and deny it, attributing evidence to video doctoring. Past tense: farouked. Example: To farouk is human.”

Yakassai, however, maintained that the video of his principal collecting bribe was “cloned through technological advancements by evil-minded people who wanted to blackmail, extort and assassinate the governor”.

A Twitter user with handle Jioke Nnaji shaded Yakassai, saying the video was engineered, nursed and doctored, while another said the spokesperson had said beautiful nonsense and has lost his integrity.
