Adolphus Wabara, chairman of the board of trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), says the party will take over power from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections.

Wabara spoke on Monday during the national executive committee (NEC) meeting of the party in Abuja.

Wabara said the PDP is a “beacon of hope”, noting that despite its internal crisis, the party won’t go extinct.

“It appears the PDP is dead, but the board (BoT) has always contended that this party will never die. No matter what our detractors feel, I repeat again, this party will never die,” he said.

“I want to thank the national working committee of our party for coming together once again, believing that Nigerians have enormous faith and hope in PDP.

“The God of politics is in this party. The Allah of politics is in this party. For any other party to succeed, we have to release our God to bless them. But our God knows that PDP is the beacon of hope for this country.”

Wabara said the success of the NEC meeting would unsettle opponents who tried to prevent it from holding.

“What is happening here today will shock so many people. I’m sure they will start planning again to bring problems,” he said.

“NWC, please don’t allow a crack anymore, because once they have seen us now coming together, they say, what? What happened? Who is the native doctor? God, they don’t believe in God.

“Who is the native doctor who made this possible? They will start doing something to destabilise us.

“So, whatever we do today, we do because we serve this nation and the suffering masses. That’s why we have all sacrificed one thing or the other. We hope to take over power in 2027.”

’DEFECTIONS ARE ALL COSMETIC’

On his part, Bala Mohammed, governor of Bauchi and chairman of the PDP Governor’s Forum, said all crises in the party have been resolved.

“This is a miracle of the PDP, a party that has history, pedigree and the human capital to deliver Nigeria,” he said.

“We have been engrossed in controversies and challenges not created by us, but created for us and we have been navigating unlike the other parties.

“Irrespective of the manifestations and perceptions, we are the party to beat. The gale of people leaving the party is all cosmetic.

“They are all created to diminish us, but I must thank the leaders and all the organs of the party, especially the BOT, the caucuses of the national assembly and most importantly, my colleagues and the national working committee (NWC). Everything we do is for the NWC.

“Today, I must tell the world that the NWC has collapsed all differences, all rancour. They met before this meeting.

“What you have been seeing in terms of press releases (conflicting press releases) has stopped, and you will not see them again. We are all on the same page.”

Mohammed said the PDP governors are “solidly” behind the NWC and BoT, and would work to support them in holding the next NEC meeting.

“We will brief members on our strategy and plan. What we know is tactical planning, not arrogance,” he said.

“All our attackers have been defeated. We will not disappoint Nigerians and our teaming supporters.”

Bala added that there is no internal wrangling in the state chapters of the party.
