Peter Crouch, former English forward, says he is “excited to have gotten his Nigerian passport” — after speculation linking Harry Redknapp to the Super Eagles job.

Before the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) confirmed Gernot Rohr’s contract extension as the Eagles head coach, there were rumours that Redknapp, a British football manager, was being lined up for the job.

The development had prompted football fans on social media platforms to joke about Redknapp bringing some of his favourite players including the likes of Crouch, Jermain Defoe and Niko Kranjcar to Nigeria.

In reaction to the jokes, the former Stoke City forward took to his Twitter page and wrote: “So excited to get my Nigerian passport through today ‪#gosupereagles‬.”

Charlie Adam, former Rangers star, was among those who responded to Crouch, saying: “You better make sure Peter Odemwingie doesn’t just turn up!.”
