Omoyele Sowore, presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), says he has never smoked cannabis in his life.

Sowore, an advocate for the legalisation of marijuana, disclosed this during a Twitter Space hosted by The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

The conversation, themed ‘Cannabis: health or wealth’, was on whether cannabis should be legalised or not.

Sowore said even if cannabis is legalised, he would not consume it because he is already “high” on justice.

“I do not consume cannabis. Never smoked cannabis in my life. Even if you legalise it, I’d probably not take it because I think I’m high on justice already. I don’t need to add any more substance to it,” Sowore said.

In 2018, Sowore said Nigeria will export marijuana if he gets elected as the president of the country.

Commenting during the space, the publisher of Sahara Reporters added that he has maintained his stance because “I know all those countries that have legalised/decriminalised growing of cannabis will come and impose their products upon Nigeria whereas Nigeria has some of the best products already”.

He argued that beyond consumption, cannabis can also be used for the production of medicines, textiles and concrete.

Currently, the use of marijuana is outlawed in the country.

According to a report released by the United Nations Office on Drug and Crime (UNODC) in 2018, marijuana is the most consumed substance in Nigeria.
