Abdulfatah Ahmed, governor of Kwara state, has appointed Abdul-Azeez Muhammad as his special assistant on Fulani affairs.

Isiaka Gold, secretary to the state government (SSG), made this known in a statement on Tuesday in Ilorin, the state capital.

Muhammad is to represent Miyetti-Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), the umbrella body of herdsmen, in the governor’s administration.

Gold explained that the appointment was driven by Ahmed’s commitment to “ensure harmonious” relationship between herdsmen, farmers and other segments of the society.

The SSG also said that the appointment would also serve to ease communication between members of MACBAN, the government and local farmers in the state.

Gold said the decision to appoint a special assistant on Fulani affairs was reached at the enlarged meeting of the state security committee held recently.

He congratulated the new appointee and urged him to approach his new assignment with the diligence and dedication.

Clashes between farmers and herdsmen have been on the rise across the country.

On Thursday, suspected herdsmen invaded a church in Benue killing two priests and worshippers.
