A warm embrace? Not what you see everyday between an ambitious woman and the man partly responsible for the ouster of her husband from power.

But former President Olusegun Obasanjo and the wife of President Goodluck Jonathan stunned onlookers at the burial of the mother of Dave Umahi, governor of Ebonyi state, on Friday.

Obasanjo gave a “warm embrace” to Patience, the wife of his one-time ally-turned-foe.

The occasion, which took place in Uburu, Ohaozara local government area of Ebonyi, had top government officials in attendance.

Among those who attended the burial were Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers; Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo; Ali Modu Sheriff, chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); Anyim Pius, former secretary to the government of the federation.

The encounter between Obasanjo and Patience bring back the memories of January 2015 when the former president surprisingly attended the wedding of Inebharapu Paul, Jonathan’s foster daughter, in the heat of a very public spat.

So excited was Jonathan at that occasion that he specially recognised Obasanjo in his vote of thanks.

“Let me appreciate our father, President Olusegun Obasanjo, for being here with us. Thank you for coming,” he said.

But Obasanjo did not sheathe his sword after that wedding, as he continued to lambast Jonathan, even after hosting him alongside Enoch Adeboye, general overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), and David Oyedepo, presiding bishop of Living Faith Church World Wide, at his hilltop mansion in Abeokuta.
