Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has made an order for made-in-Aba shoes.

He made the order at the 2016 edition of the Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurship Forum, which held in Lagos, on Saturday.

A panelist at the forum, Obasnajo told Okezie Ikpeazu, governor of Abia state and ‘chief marketing officer of made-in-Aba products’, to send the shoes to him.

He also commended the governor for his effort in developing the business architecture of Aba.

“Governor, I listened to you and I commend you for what you’re doing in Abia. Please keep doing what you’ve told us you’re doing,” he said.

“So, Governor Abia, you have to send a pair of the shoes to me, I use size 42.”

On his part, Ikpeazu said he was proud of the exploits of the commercial city.

He disclosed that a firm, which had received an order to supply about 50,000 military boots, was currently in Aba where the production is in progress.

“I am happy to announce here that Aba which is the commercial nerve centre of the Abia state and Old Eastern Region of Nigeria, is also the SME capital of Nigeria, where young people are in the business of making shoes, bags and clothes, including the one I am wearing,” he said.

“Let me also announce here that a private firm that has an order to supply 50,000 military boots is currently in Aba, where our shoemakers are in production for the firm.”

I wonder what Obasanjo is trying to achieve here. Made in Nigeria products or rather made in Aba products were available everywhere during his presidency and far beyond as he was head of state. Why making the order now?
