EXTRA: ‘Rise with De Nigga’ — Anambra guber candidate promises to ‘let masses live’ in campaign poster

A campaign poster for the forthcoming Anambra governorship election has set tongues wagging — not least for its dramatic messaging and unusual design.

“Rise with De Nigga … let the masses live,” screams the campaign banner featuring Ezechukwu Japhet Nweke, better known as Jeff Nweke, the governorship candidate of the Action Alliance (AA); alongside his running mate, Elvis Obi.

Nweke, dressed in a black, flowing suit and dark sunglasses, complete with a beret, is seen pointing forward in a bold pose, while an unsmiling, unflinching Obi is pictured below him.

The campaign slogan, printed in bold red and blue letters, sits above the instruction: ‘How to vote and decide your destiny’, accompanied by a sample ballot that includes the logos of several political parties.

The messaging suggests a populist campaign theme centred on economic relief and grassroots empowerment.

Nweke, who identifies himself on the poster as Ozo Chief Ezechukwu Japhet Nweke (Jeff Nweke) Ozozuluezu, is a businessman who has promised inclusive governance if elected governor on November 8.

The AA candidate will be up against Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA); Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC); George Moghalu of the Labour Party (LP); among others.

Joash Amupitan, chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has promised fair officiating ahead of the vote.

Amupitan also urged security agencies to continue providing a safe environment for electoral officials and voters, while warning against vote-buying and voter inducement.
