Niyi Adebayo, minister of industry, trade and investment, on Monday drove himself to work following the directive of President Muhammadu Buhari that non-essential workers should stay at home.
During his national broadcast on Sunday, Buhari imposed a 14-day curfew on the federal capital territory (FCT), Lagos and Ogun states.
He said the measures were aimed at curbing the spread of coronavirus. The country has so far recorded 111 cases of disease and one death.
In a series of tweets on Monday, Adebayo said he was on his way to meet manufacturers and captains of industry to ensure that they have a conducive atmosphere to meet the daily needs of Nigerians.
“As directed by Mr. President, I’m heading to work to meet with manufacturers and captains of industries to ensure that they have a conducive working environment to meet the daily needs of Nigerians during these challenging times,” the minister tweeted.
“Times have changed. We must adapt. The FG has instructed that all non-essential staff should stay at home to maintain #SocialDistancing.”
