Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers, has appointed 14,000 advisers for various political units in the state.

Kelvin Ebiri, the governor’s aide, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.

According to the statement, Wike said the special advisers will play a “pivotal role” in his administration.

“In addition to the 14,000 advisers, Governor Wike has also appointed 319 Ward Liaison Officers and 40 Local Government Area Liaison Officers. The appointments are with immediate effect,” the statement reads.

Like Wike, Ben Ayade, governor of Cross River, had appointed 38,000 aides.

Defending his decision, Ayade had said it was part of efforts to improve on sustainable development in the state.

“In politics, talk is cheap. I have history. I know clearly that poverty is extreme and I decided to bring 38,000 young people into the dining table to allow me the emotional and social temperature to take advantage of my business connection to bring value to Cross River state,” the Cross River governor had said.

Meanwhile, the development comes a few months to the end of Wike’s tenure as governor of Rivers.

Wike was elected governor in 2015 and was re-elected in 2019 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
