FAAN inaugurates cargo terminal at Lagos airport to boost exports

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has inaugurated a new domestic cargo terminal at the general aviation terminal (GAT) in Lagos as part of efforts to modernise the country’s aviation logistics.

FAAN said the initiative, led by Festus Keyamo, minister of aviation and aerospace development, under the directorate of cargo development and services, headed by Lekan Thomas, aims to boost export activities and strengthen Nigeria’s cargo infrastructure.

In a statement on Friday, Obiageli Orah, director of public affairs and consumer protection at FAAN, said the new cargo processing facility was commissioned today by Olubunmi Kuku, managing director of FAAN, who was represented by Joy Agunbiade, the director of commercial and business development.

According to Obiageli, the terminal is designed to improve cargo handling operations’ efficiency, scalability, and connectivity.

“As e-commerce and agricultural exports rise, the facility offers reliable and secure logistics, helping to reduce bottlenecks and supporting businesses nationwide,” the statement reads.

“It also positions Lagos as a central cargo hub, which is expected to attract more national and international freight operators.”

FAAN also announced plans to replicate the model in other parts of the country including Abuja, Kano, Jos, Niger, and Port Harcourt to expand access to modern cargo processing across the country.

The effort, FAAN said, aligns with its strategic roadmap to decentralise and optimise cargo movement.
