The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has disclosed that the Benin airport would be closed to flight operations from June 20 to July 10 to facilitate rehabilitation work on its runway.

Onyekwere Nnaekpe, FAAN’s deputy general manager, corporate affairs, said this in a statement issued on Friday.

The statement disclosed that that a notice to airmen (NOTAM) had already been issued to all operators of scheduled and non-scheduled flights to the airport.

It said this was to enable them make alternative arrangements for their flight operations during the period of the closure.

The authority, however, advised that the Asaba airport and the Osubi airstrip in Warri could be used as alternatives to the Benin airport.

“The runway rehabilitation work is part of a routine maintenance programme designed by the authority to ensure that airport runways and other ancillary facilities do not fall below standards recommended by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO),” the statement read.

“We regret any inconvenience the closure of the Benin airport for this period will cause airline operators, airline passengers and other users of the airport.”
