Michael Abuo, director-general of the Cross River state migration control agency, has disowned a publication which advertised 50,000 household jobs abroad.
The publicity material, which has been circulating online, contains the name of the agency promising residents of the state “decent jobs” as maids and drivers in Saudi Arabia.
The poster also stated that the job is meant for both male and female residents aged between 23 and 40 years, while the salary estimate is between $200 to $250.
It also stated that the administrative fee for application is N1,500 and processing fee is $100.
“People chosen must not indulge in prostitution, stealing, fraud and thuggery,” the poster reads.
But in a statement on Wednesday, Abuo said the state government is not involved in such a programme.
“The attention of our Agency has been drawn to certain reports and comments about our yet-to-be-launched decent jobs and work study programme in the E.U., U.S. and Canada, which is a component of our Cross River State Migration Summit holding on the 22nd of April, 2021 at Transcop Hotel, Calabar,” Abuo said.
“The general public is advised and informed to discountenance any flyers or publicity indicating our involvement in low/semi skilled component of labour as none of that has been done as we will only focus on skilled labour migration, i.e. skilled migrant programme on our launch date.
“Furthermore, in the execution of all of our programmes and activities, it is and will be done in collaboration with relevant state, federal and international government and non governmental organisations to ensure best global practices.”
