A video in circulation is said to be from another attack on Babagana Zulum, governor of Borno state, by Boko Haram insurgents — this is not true.

The video, which has gone viral on Twitter, is actually from an incident that happened in Kenya some months ago.

Many social media users started sharing the video on Monday evening, claiming it shows the insurgents launching yet another attack on the governor.

Zulum has been attacked by suspected Boko Haram members on two occasions over the last three days.

The insurgents first attacked his convoy and other vehicles conveying government officials on Friday, killing about 30 persons.

Barely 48 hours after, on Sunday, they ambushed his convoy again while he was departing Baga town in Kukawa local government area.

As the dust raised by the latest attack was yet to settle, a video showing what appears to be a convoy being attacked emerged online.

In the video, shared by multiple social media handles including here, here and here where it has been viewed about 20,000 times, the convoy came under heavy gunshots with some of those in the area teargassed.

However, TheCable ran a background check on the clip and found out the scene was from a violent rally that took place in Kenya in January.

The first red flag was the number plate of one of the cars captured which looked different from that of vehicles in Nigeria.

When TheCable ran a google reverse image search of the thumbnail images from the video, it showed the clip was first published here on January 18, 2020.

A news report from the incident stated that the scene played out when police officers in Mumias, Kakamega county in Kenya, confronted some politicians and their supporters during a planned rally.
