Abiodun Aremu
The family and associates of Abiodun Aremu, a prominent labour activist, have announced plans for his burial scheduled for Thursday, October 23.
Aremu died on October 12 after being struck by a hit-and-run driver near his home in Ota, Ogun state.
In a statement released on Monday, the groups relayed that his burial will take place at his residence near Ijako Sugar bus stop on the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway in Ogun state.
The burial committee said the funeral rites will span three parts, beginning with a day of tribute on Wednesday, October 22.

The tribute event, themed ‘Celebrating the Life of a steadfast people’s revolutionary’, will hold from 12pm to 4pm at the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NURSES HOUSE) Lagos state secretariat, located at 19 Amaraolu street, near Pearlworth Hotel and the New African Shrine in Ikeja.
The tribute session will be chaired by Femi Falana, the senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN), who also leads the burial committee.
Speakers will include representatives from labour unions, pro-democracy groups, human rights organisations, and the Cuban embassy.

The statement detailed that in the evening, comrades and associates will hold a candlelit procession and vigil at the deceased’s residence.
On Thursday morning, Aremu’s body will lie in state at the residence from 7am to 10am, followed by funeral eulogies and family tributes before the interment.
