Father docked for ‘raping own daughter’

A 47-year-old man, Solomon Ojo, was arraigned in an Ota senior magistrates’ court in Ogun on Monday, for allegedly raping his daughter.

Ojo, who lives at 15, Abinuyo street, Ijoko, Ota, is facing one-count charge of rape.

Rosemary Brown, the prosecutor, told the court that the accused committed the offence at his residence sometime in 2013.

Brown said the accused forcefully had carnal knowledge of his daughter (name withheld).

She said the offence committed contravened section 358 of the criminal code, Vol. 1, revised laws of Ogun state, 2006.

Temitope Adebutu, the magistrate, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

Adebutu said the sureties must have landed property within the court’s jurisdiction and swear to an affidavit of means.

She said the sureties should also provide evidence of one year tax payment and submit photocopies of the documents to the court.

The case was adjourned to June 3.
