The Kano state Hisbah board has arrested Misbahu Salisu, a 28-year-old man, for the alleged killing of his day-old daughter.

Salisu was said to have killed the baby over his preference for a male child.

According to a statement signed by Mujahid Aminudeen, Hisbah’s deputy commander, general of operations, Salisu was arrested on Friday in Doka Baici, Tofa LGA of the state.

Salisu allegedly said he poisoned the day-old baby with a local insect killer known as ‘otapiapia’.

The suspected killer was also said to have drugged his wife with a sleeping tablet before carrying out the operation.

“Salisu also drugged the mother of the baby, Sa’ade, with a cup of tea which contained sleeping tablets before carrying out the criminal act,” the statement reads.

“The suspect confessed to the crime, saying he preferred a male child but his wife gave birth to a female, which prompted him to end the baby’s life.”
