Kayode Fayemi, governor of Ekiti, has appointed Akaninyene Akpan as the executive secretary of the state civil service.

Akintunde Oyebode, special adviser to the state government on investment, trade and innovation, made this known in a congratulatory message to Akpan on Twitter.

“Congrats to Akan Akpan, on his appointment as Executive Secretary in the Ekiti State Civil Service. It’s a pleasure to see his hard work being well rewarded, and I wish him the best in his new role,” he tweeted.

Akpan, who hails from Ikot Obio Asang, Usuk Ukwok in Ini local government area of Akwa Ibom State, was until this appointment, the director of legal drafting in the state ministry of justice.

In a statement by Yinka Oyebode, chief press secretary to the governor, Fayemi said the appointment was a reward for “excellence, diligence, and hard work”.

According to the statement, Akpan joined the state civil service as a junior counsel in the state ministry of justice after his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

Oyebode said Akpan has a 25-year post-call-to-bar experience and described his appointment as “merit-based”.

“He rose through the ranks to become a Director (in charge of Legal Drafting and Corporate Law unit) in the Ministry,” he said.

“His appointment as Executive Secretary takes effect from February 1, 2020.”

Akpan, who is actively involved in the activities of the Nigerian Bar Association, was the pioneer secretary of the association’s branch in Ikole Ekiti between 2002-2005.

He is currently the chairman of the branch’s NBA.
