The rivalry between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti state took a different dimension on Tuesday, as Ayodele Fayose, the governor-elect, overruled the decision of Kayode Fayemi, the incumbent governor, on the dusk-to-dawn curfew imposed last month.

Fayemi, who is expected to bow out of office on Thursday, declared the curfew in an attempt to restore normalcy to the state after series of violence that led to the loss of lives and destruction of properties.

The governor also suspended his tour to some local governments as a result of the decision, saying he wanted peace to reign.

But speaking during an interview, Fayose said rather than bring about peace, the curfew had imposed hardship on the people.

“It is unfortunate that people have been put on under needless pressure and I have discussed with police and the army on the need to let people move around freely,” he said.

He expressed thanks to the people for electing him, assuring them that he would transform the state for the better.

Fayose urged the people to turn out en masse for his inauguration.
