Kayode Fayemi, governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti state, says suspected uniformed militants and hoodlums have been camped in secret locations in the state to foment trouble during Saturday’s election.

He said this during an interview programme on Voice 89.9FM, a radio station in Ado-Ekiti, during the weekend.

Fayemi said intelligence report at his disposal showed that the militants and hoodlums are sewing uniforms of officers of the Department of State Services (DSS), the army and police to intimidate voters and instigate unrest during the elections.

He warned those planning to cause trouble in the state to leave in their own interest, or face being arrested.

The APC candidate said there would be adequate and maximum security during the elections, hence no cause for anxiety.

“I want to assure prospective voters that Ekiti will be safe; it will be secured; there will be maximum security for this election,” he said.

“Our people should go about their businesses in peace and they should not be threatened. They should not feel harassed by all we are hearing from those who don’t want free and fair electoral process.

“We are aware (of this) and every information that we get, we pass to security agencies. I will like to advise those busybodies who have found their way into Ekiti to leave our state. In your interest, leave unannounced before the election because you will face very severe punishment.”

The former minister said Ekiti is in a sorry state because of “unseriousness in governance”.

He said he would get a moratorium of six months to clear the backlog of salaries owed workers between six and nine months.
