Ayodele Fayose, Ekiti governor, has said the federal government has released the withheld January budget support fund (BSF) to the state.

Fayose made this known on Saturday while speaking on a live programme tagged ‘Meet Your Governor’ aired on the state-owned Ekiti television and radio stations.

He had earlier accused the federal government and the ministry of finance of intentionally withholding the funds in a bid to impede ongoing projects and also to discredit him ahead of the 2018 gubernatorial election in the state.

In reaction, the federal government had released a statement denying the accusation, saying the state failed to meet the necessary requirements for the release of the fund even after it had been warned.

Fayose said, “What is important now is that the money has been released. I won’t want to go into details.”

He thanked Kemi Adeosun, the minister of finance, and Godwin Emefiele, the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), for their effort in securing the fund.

“What happened behind the scene is no longer important, it is the resolution of the issue that is important. I thank the minister of finance and the CBN governor,” he said.
