Ayodele Fayose, governor of Ekiti state, on Wednesday personally supervised the distribution of rice branded in his name to people of the state.

The action mirrors similar distribution of food items before and after the June 2014 governorship election, which he won, defeating incumbent Kayode Fayemi of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

It is also in line with his promise at his inaugural speech, during which he promised to banish hunger in the state and even declared his intention to appoint a special adviser on stomach infrastructure.

“I have forgiven Ekiti for removing me unjustly and I declare peace, prosperity , progress, employment, food and stomach infrastructure,” he had said at his swearing-in ceremony.

“You can put a tar on the road but if I don’t have a car and I’m hungry, then that tar is meaningless. Tarring our road is wonderful but putting food inside this stomach is very important.

“Already, I am grooming your chicken for Christmas. I am getting your rice ready to do stomach infrastructure…. I will dedicate myself to your service. I will banish hunger in your midst. I will work hard to put food on your table….

“I am the governor of your imagination, the governor that eats boli with you, the governor that drinks agbo jedi with you, the governor that knows that the resources of this state belong to you.

“When I come to buy boli tomorrow, I will drop something. I will look after you. They are too clean in their own eyes to go to the jedi sector and that is why you voted them out. Whether they call it stomach infrastructure, that is their business because I am going to appoint a special adviser for stomach infrastructure.”

After the distribution of the items on Wednesday, Fayose took time to address the issue of workers of the state found to have been late to their duty posts on Monday, saying he had forgiven the workers because of his love for them.

“I’ve pardoned the workers caught on Monday for late coming because of the love I have for workers, but our attitude to work must change,” he said.

“If workers are being paid regularly as we are doing here in Ekiti, they are expected to be diligent in their duties.”

EFCC should cross check if this rice was not bought with the peoples tax. Secondly, they made the citizens to waste over 6 hours on the waiting line for a five kg sachet of rice. Instead of introducing poverty eradication programmes, he is touting himself around as the god of the state.
