FCCPC holds retreat to review operations, drive reforms

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has commenced its 2025 management retreat to review operations and drive reforms.

In a statement on Friday, the commission said the three-day retreat themed ‘Building Resilience for Sustainable Institutional Capacity’ is taking place at Fraser Suites in Abuja.

FCCPC said the retreat brings together senior officers and management staff to review ongoing operations, improve coordination across departments, and align priorities with the commission’s mandate under the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act (FCCPA) 2018.

Tunji Bello, the FCCPC chief executive officer (CEO), said the retreat offers a chance to take stock of the commission’s progress, identify existing gaps, and chart a clear path towards better performance and service delivery.

The CEO recounted that he inherited a thriving agency with an enviable image among federal regulatory agencies when he took over in July 2024.

He noted that despite being relatively young, the FCCPC has gained national and international recognition for its enforcement and advocacy work, with lasting impact hinging on investment in staff capacity, modern tools, and a well-aligned structure.

“The strength of the FCCPC lies with a critical mass among the commission’s staff,” the EVC said.

“We must keep investing in knowledge, systems, and work environments that support productivity and professionalism. This retreat is not a formality; it is a deliberate effort to reposition the commission for long-term success.”

Bello emphasised the need to build a results-driven culture based on fairness, teamwork, and accountability, beyond technical competence, to overcome the organisation’s challenges.

He urged participants to make practical and forward-looking contributions at the retreat, assuring that the resolutions will inform reforms to strengthen the FCCPC’s operations under President Bola Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda.

Also, FCCPC introduced Louis Odion, executive commissioner, operations, and Ummusalma Rabiu, executive commissioner, corporate services, to the workers during the retreat.

Bello, who is also the FCCPC executive vice-president (EVC), said the newly appointed commissioners will attend the mandatory induction course at ASCON, Badagry, as per federal government policy.

On October 15, the senate confirmed Odion and Rabiu as FCCPC commissioners after President Bola Tinubu approved their appointment on August 13.
