FCT APC stakeholders reject delegate list ahead of council primaries

Zephaniah Jisalo, minister of special duties and intergovernmental affairs, speaking during the FCT APC stakeholders' meeting in Abuja on Monday

Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the federal capital territory (FCT) have rejected the outcome of the party’s delegate elections ahead of Wednesday’s council primaries.

Party executives and leaders from the six area councils accused organisers of manipulating the process, alleging widespread irregularities, violence, and imposition of delegates across the 62 wards in the nation’s capital.

At a meeting held in Abuja on Monday, Zephaniah Jisalo, minister of special duties and intergovernmental affairs, met with aggrieved members to calm tensions and promised to engage the APC national leadership on the issue.

The stakeholders alleged that a high-ranking member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who is a close ally of Nyesom Wike, FCT minister, was interfering in the delegate selection process.

Jisalo, who described the situation as unfortunate, said he would meet with Abdullahi Ganduje, national chairman of the APC, to resolve the matter and uphold the party’s internal democratic processes.

He urged members to remain loyal and committed to the party’s unity despite the challenges surrounding the delegate elections.

Yakubu Adamu, zonal secretary of the APC in the north central, admitted there were issues in some wards but expressed optimism that the situation would be resolved before the primary election.

“You know in an election like this, there must be a crisis; there must be issues,” Adamu told journalists at the meeting.

“There were elections in a few places, and there were issues in a few places.

“These are things we collated and discussed, and we are going to trash them by the special grace of God so that we face the election on Wednesday without any issue.”

Adamu added that the APC leadership is working to harmonise the disputes and ensure a peaceful and credible primary across the territory.
