Some residents of the federal capital territory (FCT), Abuja, are taking party in an area council election.

The election was earlier scheduled for March 19, but was shifted to April 9 owing to a problem of logistics.

The election is taking place in six area councils- AMAC, Abaji, Gwagwalada, Kuje, Bwari, and Kwali- which have the semblance of a local government area.

Sixty-two councillor seats are also in contention, and the candidates are drawn from the 30 registered political parties.

Although, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) registered 1, 020, 799 persons for the election only 646, 883 of them collected their permanent voter cards.

The Nigeria police have promised to provide adequate security in the course of the election, and as of the time of filing there has been no incident.
