The federal capital territory (FCT) police command has arrested Tajudeen Baruwa, president of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), for alleged homicide and criminal conspiracy.

Josephine Adeh, FCT police spokesperson, confirmed the arrest to TheCable on Friday.

Adeh said 21 others were also arrested for the same charges and will soon be arraigned in court.

“He was arrested along with 21 others for alleged criminal conspiracy, public disobedience and culpable homicide,” she said.

“All will be arraigned in court at the conclusion of investigation.”

There were reports that Baruwa and other suspects were arrested and detained between Tuesday and Wednesday.

The arrest came after two factions of the union violently clashed in Abuja on Tuesday — an incident which left one person dead and several others injured.

Baruwa had accused the former NURTW leaders of illegally occupying the union’s national secretariat.

He had also lashed out at Najeem Yasin, former president of the union, for allegedly holding secret meetings with other past leaders of the union.

The NURTW president had also accused the police of taking sides with the Lagos Park Management Committee on the saga.
