FCT policeman dies in shootout with suspected kidnappers

Ambi John, a police officer attached to Operation Puff Adder, has lost his life after a shootout with suspected kidnappers in the federal capital territory (FCT).

Confirming the incident in a statement on Tuesday, Mariam Yusuf, FCT police spokesperson, said John died at the hospital while receiving treatment for gunshot wounds he sustained during the operation.

She said the operatives had repelled multiple attacks by the suspected kidnappers in the early hours of Tuesday along Dankusa, Angwan-Zegele-Zuba axis in the FCT.

Yusuf said the gunmen had escaped into the forest bordering the FCT and Niger state after abducting four persons from Dankusa.

She added that operatives from the command’s anti-kidnapping squad have made some arrests in connection with the abductions.

The PPRO also said Bala Ciroma, FCT commissioner of police, commiserated with the family of the officer who died in the service of the nation.

Yusuf said the commissioner of police is committed to ensuring that lives and property are secured within the FCT.
