The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has demolished 134 houses in Akpmajenya, a village in the Apo district.

The demolition is to pave way for the construction of a major road.

According to NAN, the exercise was coordinated by Ikharo Attah, chairman of the FCT task force on sanitation.

Speaking with reporters after the exercise on Saturday, Muktar Galadima, director, department of development control (FCTA), said the place had been marked for demolition since January.

Galadima said authorities interfaced with the inhabitants of the settlement on the need for them to vacate the area, adding that they had been compensated.

The director said the community fell on a proposed interchange linking Oladipo Diya road.

On his part, Baba Lawan, director of Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB), said the village caused gridlock around the area it was situated.

“The village is now occupied by commercial people who are mainly traders and they generate lots of waste and those wastes are deposited even on the road,” Lawan said.
