FEC okays N17.4bn for broadband infrastructure across six geopolitical zones

The federal executive council (FEC) has approved the sum of N17.4 billion for the procurement of broadband infrastructure across the six geo-political zones.

The council gave the approval on Wednesday at a meeting presided over by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo.

Briefing state correspondents after the meeting, Lai Mohammed, minister of information and culture, said the council approved N17.4 billion for the provision of broadband infrastructure for micro, small and medium enterprises and tertiary and higher learning institutions across the six geo-political zones.

Mohammed also said there will be a supply of IT communications equipment and furniture for communication centres in the nation’s six geo-political zones by the ministry of communications and digital economy.

He added that N3.992 billion was also approved by the council for the augmentation of road projects in Kwara and Niger states.

According to Mohammed, the council ratified the international labour organisation migrant workers supplementary provision, and approved the draft ‘national policy on welding’.

The meeting had the physical attendance of Boss Mustapha, secretary to the government of the federation, and Ibrahim Gambari, chief of staff to the president.

Others present were Zainab Ahmed, minister of finance, budget and national planning; Isa Pantami, minister of communication and digital economy; Sunday Dare, minister of youth and sports development; and Chris Ngige, minister of labour and employment.
