Federal high court CJ writes NJC, AGF, NBA over nomination of 15 judges

John Tsoho, chief judge of the federal high court, has requested nominations for the appointment of judges in 13 states and the federal capital territory (FCT).

Dated December 20, the letter is titled “appointment of fifteen (15) additional judges for the federal high court bench”.

The letter was addressed to the National Judicial Council (NJC), the attorney-general of the federation (AGF), and National Bar Association (NBA).

“I write to inform your lordships, the honourable attorney-general of the federation and minister of justice and the president of the Nigerian Bar Association, that the exercise for the consideration of candidates for possible appointment to the bench of the federal high court with regard to some states will soon commence,” the chief judge wrote.

“The states in issue include Akwa-Ibom, Bauchi, Benue, Ekiti, Enugu, FCT, Kaduna, Katsina, Kogi, Kwara, Lagos, Rivers, Sokoto and Zamfara.

“In line with the NJC Guidelines and Procedural Rules for appointment of Judicial Officers of Superior Courts, I therefore invite your lordships, the honourable attorney-general of the federation and minister of justice and the president Nigerian Bar Association to kindly nominate suitably qualified persons from the aforementioned states for appointment to the federal high court bench.

“Your recommendations should reach my chambers, latest by the 14th February, 2022.”
