FG appoints new CMDs for 11 federal medical centres

The federal government has approved the appointment of new chief medical directors for 11 facilities in the country.

In a statement on Thursday, Patricia Deworitshe, a director at the federal ministry of health, said the CMDs will be serving for a four-year term beginning August 1.

The new CMDs include Nyandanti Yakub Wilberforce, Federal Medical Centre, Hong, Adamawa state; Issa Baba Awoye, Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Buddo-Egba, Kwara; Umar Faruk Abdumajid, Federal Medical Centre, Daura, Katsina state; Muhammad Shittu Adamu, Federal Medical Centre, Wase, Plateau; Shuaibu Jauro Yahya, Federal Medical Centre Mubi, Adamawa state; Mercy Anugwu, Federal Medical Centre Onitsha, Anambra state; Auwalu Sani Salihu, Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital Dawanau Kano state; and Rufai Ahmed, Medical Rehabilitation Therapists Board of Nigeria.

Others are Mangwa J. Kortar, Federal Medical Centre, Makurdi, Benue state; Robinson Chukwudi Onoh, Alex Ekwueme, Federal University Teaching Hospital,  Abakiliki, Ebonyi state; and Nurudeen Isa, National Orthopaedic Hospital, Dala, Kano state.

Presenting them with the appointment letters, Kachollom Daju, the ministry’s permanent secretary, congratulated the appointees and charged them to work together with the health workers and stakeholders as a team.

Daju also urged the new CMDs to explore all necessary avenues to provide a conducive work environment and infrastructure aimed at achieving a high standard of health care.

“It may be challenging but there is no challenge that is unsurmountable and your appointment is an indication of the confidence that the federal government reposed in you,” she said.

Daju assured that the ministry will provide necessary support within the available resources to enable them to meet the hospital standard adding.
