The Super Falcons of Nigeria on Friday ‎finally got paid by the federal government on Wednesday, but what they received was not their full entitlement.

The eight-time African champions had resorted to protesting the non-payment of their allowances and match bonuses on Wednesday before their plight was taken seriously.

Subsequently, the government approved the release of funds to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for the payment of the bonuses and allowances.

The Falcons were being owed for their participation at the just concluded 10th Women’s African Nations Cup in Cameroon. However, the ‎total sum of money given to the players and officials did not amount to what they were owed.

The NFF owed the Super Falcons team a cumulative sum of $819,000 from the qualification games to the gold medal win against hosts, Cameroon, in the final.

TheCable understands that the money released for the female players was only meant for the AWCON.

According to Ademola Olajire, NFF media director, the government asked the federation to source funds to pay the team for matches played during the qualifiers.
