FG inaugurates substation, transformer to boost power transmission by 123MW

The federal government has inaugurated a substation and a transformer to boost transmission wheeling capacity by 123 megawatts (MW).

Adebayo Adelabu, minister of power, who inaugurated the projects, said the equipment is a testament to the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu towards transforming the power sector in the pursuit of reliable and sustainable energy infrastructure for a better Nigeria.

Bolaji Tunji, special adviser, strategic communications to the minister of power, made this known in a statement on Friday.

The projects include 63 megavolt ampere (MVA), 132/33 kilo volt (KV) mobile station at Ajah, Lagos, and 60MWA, 132/33KV power transformer in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi.

The minister said the infrastructure stands as a beacon of hope for businesses and households towards achieving uninterrupted power supply.

According to Adelabu, the mobile substation is a strategic deployment aimed at improving the transmission capacity constraints by over 1300MV across the nation.

“Together, these equipment will boost our transmission wheeling capacity by 123mw, thereby paving the way for enhanced electricity supply for all Nigerians,” the minister said.

He praised the teamwork between the FGN Power Company, the German government, and Siemens Energy, which has enabled the manufacturing and installation of the substations.

The minister urged Nigerians to protect these facilities from vandalism and sabotage, adding that the success of government initiatives depends on collective responsibility.

Adelabu also called on the management of the power company and all stakeholders in the power sector to collaborate diligently to ensure the deadlines set for project completion are met.

Also, the minister announced the addition of 625MW to the national grid, increasing the grid’s wheeling capacity to 4800MW.

In his remarks, Kenny Anuwe, managing director of FGN Power Company, reiterated Tinubu’s unwavering determination to deliver adequate electricity towards unlocking Nigeria’s full economic potential.

Anuwe said FGN Power Company is dedicated to advancing progress and achieving significant enhancements in electricity accessibility for all Nigerians during this transformative period in Nigeria’s power sector.
